The Estate is a family business with a unified focus on quality and consistency. The various accolades that these wines have received, both in South Africa and abroad, is proof of this drive for excellence.
Flocks of blue cranes were once a common sight in the Breede River Valley, but the intrusion of mankind has threatened the survival of this unique bird. A baby blue crane was found at Goedverwacht one morning where it was rescued and nurtured back to health. It eventually spread its wings and returned to nature, but it remained at Goedverwacht in spirit and today it is the symbol on the Goedverwacht label.
The blue crane, Antropoides Paradisea, is the national bird of South Africa and is an endangered species. 90% of the wines are produced for export. There are 172 hectares under vine.
